Do players who hit with wood bats become better players? Many factors are important to consider when selecting a Radial Bat. Many of the ideas you have heard or read from metal or composite bat manufacturers are not important to a player’s skill development, which is the most important issue for young players.
Generally, the player’s size, strength, hitting style, and past experience with bats will determine what Radial Bat will be optimal.
While Radial Bat’s strength allows similar drop numbers to metal bats, the goal for optimal performance should be to choose the heaviest bat the player can swing aggressively.
One standard test you can perform is to have the player grasp a bat in their dominant hand. Hold the bat out to the side, arm straight, and determine if the arm stays straight for ten seconds. If ten seconds is easy, a heavier bat is appropriate. If the bat droops quickly, a lighter bat would be best.
Refer to the chart below to narrow your search for an appropriate Radial Bat. If switching to Radial Bats from a metal or composite bat, use the player’s recent experience to guide your selection.
When faced with a question between two lengths, always choose the longer model.

There are numerous models available for adults. Radial Bat recommends reviewing the detailed descriptions to decide which bat is best for you. Keep in consideration your skill level, preferences, and experience with wood bats.
A Radial Bat should be treated as you would treat any wood bat. Keep it clean and dry after your game or practice. Occasionally, you may want to rub the bat with 0000 grade steel wool and then put a light coat of tung oil on the barrel to protect it. Follow the directions on the can, rub a light coat on, wait a few minutes, then rub the oil in with a clean rag or paper towel.

Yes. It is more demanding to hit with a wood bat. Your timing, mechanics, and ability to perceive and react to the type of pitch dominate your performance. When hitting with a metal bat, it is possible to make decisions later in the delivery of the pitch. Moreover, it is not threatening to swing at an inside pitch with a metal bat. These realities cause metal bat players to rely on the metal bat rather than develop skills to perceive pitches early and select pitches carefully.
Developing these skills will be accelerated when using a wood bat. A former major league player who is now in player development has said, “If you take one hundred players who are major league caliber and who learned to hit with metal bats, only one of them will make the transition to be successful in the major leagues.”
Moreover, we anticipate that the design and strength of Radial Bats will improve players’ performance relative to other wood bats.
